Malaysian chemistry teacher notches Global Teacher Award
V. Komathy from SMK Ave Maria Convent Ipoh has been named the winner of the Global Teacher Award for 2021.
Komathy, a chemistry teacher, was surprised upon hearing that she notched the award, decorating her 14-year career as a teacher.
She said, “I still can’t believe being selected as the winner out of 321 candidates from Malaysia and about 26,000 entries from other countries.”
The award organised by AKS Education had shortlisted 500 nominees which included six Malaysians.
There was nothing but love on social media as Malaysians praised her for the achievement.
Ram Gopal Sivadas on Facebook wrote, “Fantastic and well done Komathy. You have made the teaching community and the nation proud.”
He added that a person like her inspires future generations to become good teachers.
Annie Alexander is hoping that the Istana Negara will congratulate her on the award just how they have previously done.
She hopes that the government can acknowledge Komathy as a valuable asset to the country.
“Hope she will be valued by the country and not be quota-ed for promotion,” Annie said.
Komathy, a master’s degree holder, is currently after her doctorate in the chemistry field at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), creating innovative products that garnered international attention.
