If you are overthinking please stop it
BY: CHRISTOPHER FERNANDEZ
Since last year till now, during the Covid-19 pandemic, it was possible to witness many people thinking hard and thinking often with their forehead in furrows and in deep concentration as if they were carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders.
This is something that does not come as a surprise as in this modern era thinking skills need to be sharp and focused and applicable to face up to a bewildering array of problems and issues that need to be solved on a daily basis.
But if you are overthinking, please stop it now because it can cause a lot of harm and damage to our minds and at worst, in the long run, it can possibly trigger a mental breakdown from which the possibility of recovery can be difficult.
It is important to think. But don’t overthink. Discipline the mind to be productive and useful and don’t stretch the thinking as this can cause fatigue and a sense of hopelessness and despair. Overthinking eventually becomes a vicious cycle.
As overthinking goes round in circles, there is a need to assert control over the mind and bring it under our control by engaging in positive, meaningful and constructive pursuits. Pursuits that give us a sense of goodness, wellness and happiness.
Overthinking has been described by a leading psychologist in Malaysia as being the source of many mental health problems in the country at present and people need to be informed and educated sufficiently with the right and proper coping skills.
