Why are MARA study loans received by T20 if Chairman claims otherwise
The public has been questioning why MARA student loans are offered to T20 students although the Chairman claims that it’s not based on favouritism or connections.
Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun, the Chairman of Mara, said, “Even if the students are children of VIPs, or from T20 families, if they are not eligible and do not meet the stipulated criteria, they will not be able to get the study loan or sponsorship or loan.”
The topic was raised when some Malaysians on Twitter were wondering how they were not eligible for the sponsorship but T20 students got it with no issue.
Others had also voiced why were T20 students, generally well-off, receiving sponsorships when they could afford them.
Aizuddin Ali claimed that it was heart-breaking to see his high school batchmate rewarded with a MARA scholarship despite getting less than 5 A’s.
Azizah stated that students are only eligible if they are excellent in their studies.
However, it does not seem to be the case when Rini Abdullah who earned straight A’s, proved that it was not enough to get into MARA.
She said, “But when I flew to Australia, I was offered 6 scholarships. It shows that local institutions do not recognize people like me but foreign countries do.”
She added, this is why so many Malaysians now excel in other countries but not in Malaysia.
