Politician racially abuses female national badminton player after defeat
A Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia politician has racially abused S. Kisona, Malaysia’s badminton athlete, after her defeat during the Sudirman Cup.
Borhanuddin Che Rahim, the Pasir Puteh division Deputy Chief, had posted on his Facebook calling Kisona derogatory terms. He said, “How can BAM pick an Indian (k****g) from the estate to be the main player for Malaysia?”
Malaysians were riled up with the offensive comments as Kisona had put her heart out during the match.
In light of the recent Bumiputera laws, the public is disappointed that politicians are behaving like minorities are worthless in this multinational country.
Ammelda Pereira, a Langkawi citizen, reminded politicians that non-Muslims equally belong to this country just like Borhannuddin.
She added, “You don’t’ own this country and talk rubbish. Our forefathers and their sweat belong to this land.”
As a taxpayer, she was shocked that such words came from a politician and would refuse to accept any apology.
Borhannuddin had apologised for the incident, claiming that didn’t’ intent to insult as it was also a Kelantan term to refer to Indians. Along with the apology, he confirmed that he will step down as the Division Deputy Chief.
Shanil Kumar believes the apology is part of the drama and he will be back soon.
“If severe action is not taken against him, it will embolden another politician to be a racist,” he said.
The retired doctor also said that he won’t be surprised if he gets a promotion elsewhere.
