Malaysians: Don’t blame the religion, blame the false preacher
Malaysians are fuming over the preaching of a Muslim Ustaz in Kedah but are refusing to blame the religion.
In a resurface video dating back to 2017, Syakir Nasoha shared that religious groups like Christianity and Judaism are against Islamic teachings. He also blamed Buddhists and Hindus for bombing mosques in Thailand, Pakistan and India.
The Ustaz added, “And remember people who practise those faiths are here in Malaysia too.”
Although Malaysians share their thoughts on the situation, they do not fault the Muslim religion. Muslims on social media claim that it’s their duty to condemn anyone who tarnishes the image of Islam.
They also insist that the religious department should ban him from preaching in the future.
Some find fault in the government because their behaviour enables certain groups to be racist.
Chandaralingam Kumarasamy said, “I blame the government for encouraging fanaticism and racial misogynism. But of course, they won’t improve because there are too many kleptomaniacs and nepotism in power.”
Faizal Salleh warned that preachers like him are dangerous and can inspire extremist cults.
He believes no matter what the reason is for that teaching, it should not have happened as nobody can blame an entire religion for several people’s mistakes.
On Monday (October 4), around 3,000 police reports were made against Syakir Nasoha.
Global Human Rights Federation President S Shashi Kumar said, “We, the non-Muslims, are fed up with being targeted. Enough is enough. This is a deliberate attack on non-Muslims.”
