Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob gave an assurance that an announcement on allowing interstate travel will be made as soon as 90 percent of the adult population is fully vaccinated and the public’s movement will not be restricted forever.
The percentage of fully vaccinated persons has been increasing from 85.5 percent to 86 percent to about 87 percent currently and in the next few days it is expected to rise.
Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri said the time for interstate travel is inching closer and that as soon as the fully vaccinated population reaches 90 percent he promised to make an announcement lifting the ban on interstate travel.
The ban on interstate travel, imposed to counter the spread of the coronavirus, is the cause for domestic tourism to hit rock bottom.
Ever since interstate travel was imposed, a growing number of hotels and resorts have closed down and people have not been able to visit their families in their respective hometowns.
He also promised that the MyTravelPass application system to leave the country would be abolished once the adult population is fully vaccinated up to 90 percent.
