The RM400 billion 12th Malaysia Plan, or better known by the acronym 12MP, unveiled in Parliament is aimed at steering the nation towards sustainable growth and inclusive prosperity for the rakyat in the spirit of Keluarga Malaysia or The Malaysian family.
In revealing the 12MP, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that everyone should work together to build a Malaysia that is competitive and resilient and being able to face up to challenges.
The ‘A Prosperous, Inclusive, Sustainable Malaysia’ theme for the five year 12MP from 2021 to 2025 focuses on nine key areas.
Among these are social welfare and the protection of the workers and the rakyat, particularly the needs of the bottom 40 percent in the B40 group. Other areas include bridging the development gap between states, particularly through digitalisation and advanced technology.
Enhancing socioeconomic development in Sabah and Sarawak also receives special attention in the 12MP.
The transport and logistics infrastructure has also been earmarked for development over the next five years, as well as ‘green growth’ for the implementation of low-carbon, clean and resilient development.
The 12MP also outlines initiatives to strengthen the public delivery system, including the adoption of ‘whole-of-government’ and ‘whole-of-nation’ approaches.
