Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia Provides Food Aid For 300 Families In Kemaman, Terengganu

Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia (YFBM) has reached out to communities in need in Perkampungan Orang Asli Sungai Pergam and Felda Neram Satu. Working in partnership with Agensi Pengurusan Bencana Negara (NADMA), Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue (SMART), Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (PERKIM) Terengganu and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Sedulur (SEDULUR), a total of RM30,000 has been channelled to fund the food aid programme to support about 300 impacted families within this area.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr Johan Halid, Chief Operation Officer of YFBM, said, “We believed that our food boxes will remain to be helpful and important even the pandemic is over. YFBM will continue to assist the affected communities and continued its commitment to target for “Zero Hunger” and “Zero Waste” through halal food distribution and a safe basis. We hope this aid will help feed the needy healthy and nutritious food.

Ending the speech Johan Halid said their thoughts are with those affected by the unprecedented challenge. More than ever before, we need more join hands so that we can weather the challenge together.


Since its establishment in 2019, Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia programmes have benefited nearly 1 million households living below poverty lines nationwide. “We aim to rescue surplus food from the manufacturer, wholesaler, hypermarket and hotel industry; sort and re-distribute it to the identified targeted B40 communities in higher learning institution (IPT), charity home, welfare centre and Program Perumahan Rakyat Termiskin (PPRT) through our strategic partners to reduce food waste while helping to ease and lessen the cost of living of the underprivileged Malaysian.

Apart from the distribution, YFBM also has set up seven (7) Food Bank Komuniti located in Lumut, Simpang Renggam, Gopeng, Kota Damansara, Baling, Kuala Tahan and Lembah Pantai. This initiative was supported by DRB-Hicom, JCL Credit Leasing and AMGEN Biopharmaceuticals as the main sponsors for the initial period of three to six-months after the Food Bank Komuniti respective launching. This community easy-access will help feed the needy with healthy and nutritious food as well as support YFBM’s drive to fight against hunger. Through the concept of ‘take only what is needed, the community is invited to apply for the basic food item(s) to the person in-charge of managing the Food Bank Komuniti.
