Mixed reactions over aid and donations
BY: SALSABIELA JAMAL
Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic began in Malaysia financial aid and donations have been pouring in for the poor, needy and homeless all over the country but it has now drawn mixed reactions and feelings from Malaysians.
Malaysians are known to be caring and sharing. They have come out in hordes to support charities and other initiatives that are reaching out to those who are poor and needy. But in the process there have been a number of false, deceitful campaigns to raise funds.
In the process of raising funds for the poor, needy and homeless, some organizations have not been acountable, open and trasparent in their dealings that Malaysians have been led to believe that they are nothing more than scams.
This does not augur well with fair-minded and right-thinking Malaysians who are aghast that the plight of helpless people should be made use of to enrich a select few with nothing more than a cunning and evil scheme to benefit from the plight of needy people.
But most of the financial aid and donation drives by individuals, organizations and the government are not only on board but it has benefittted many Malaysians enormously during a time of critical need.
This is reason enough for all these campaigns to generate financial aid, food and other forms of donations to continue only that there must now be mechanisms put in place by the government and its agencies to weed out the corrupt and the dishonest charities.
