Employment agent leaves 22-year-old woman stranded for being diagnosed with Covid-19
A fully vaccinated woman has claimed that she was left stranded by her employment agent after testing positive for Covid-19 at a clinic in Penang.
Siti Rohani had received a job offer as an operator at a factory in Perai and on September 15 the employment agent had picked her up from her home.
Along with her cousin, they were required to go to a clinic for a swab test before heading to the factory.
She said, “After filling up forms, we were taken to a clinic to undergo a Covid-19 swab test. At that moment, we were in a factory bus and the agent was also present but the swab test found that I was the only one infected with Covid-19.”
The agent in a worried state told her to leave the bus and return home or go directly to a hospital. It rendered her speechless as she only had RM 4 with her and was a stranger to the area she was abandoned at.
“However, I kept walking aimlessly from 11am and arrived at a restaurant around 2pm to buy some water because I was too thirsty,” she added while saying that she nearly fainted due to her low blood pressure.
Siti was fearful of her circumstance because she might infect the virus to the people around her.
But when she reached the restaurant, the owner’s child called the hospital and sent an ambulance to fetch her home.
The Malaysian woman born in an underprivileged family has since forgiven the irresponsible behaviour of the employment agent.
She believes, “I feel that forgiving someone is nobler than keeping a grudge because it will not bring any good.”
