Ways to Calm Down When You’re Angry

Anger is a common emotion experienced by people. However, if we let anger take control of our actions and influence the words we say to others, it will result in dire consequences. 

Hence, it is wise to control our temper even when it is difficult. If you are short-tempered and impatient, you would be easily provoked when you are stuck in traffic or when the driver in front of you drives slowly on a highway. Some parents would also get angry with their children when they continuously fail to get good grades at school. 

However hard it is to control our anger, there are ways that we could manage our anger. An angry person would blurt out words in a spur of the moment without reflecting on them. Hence, it is vital that we think before we say anything. For instance, a friend arrived an hour late to meet you at a café. Instead of saying words that you would regret later, you should try asking your friend the reason why he or she came late. 

If you feel that you should let someone know that they have provoked you, it’s best to wait until you have calmed down before telling them how angry they made you feel. You should also do it in a polite manner and this would make them aware not to repeat their actions. 

When you feel irritated or angry, you could also take a walk in a park or go jogging. When situations that are out of our control make us angry, it’s wise to stop and think if getting angry would be worth it. You could also try to think of a solution to solve the problem. For example, if your child is always playing video games and doesn’t enjoy studying, you could find ways to make studying fun for him or her. Uncontrollable anger would harm our health and cause issues such as high blood pressure. 

On the other hand, feeling angry when someone gets abused is healthy as it will drive you to take action to help the person.
