Senior citizens want their vaccination centres near their home, not 200 km away
Although senior citizens are appreciative of the government giving access to vaccines, there are many not preferring to travel 200 kilometers (km) for their upcoming booster shots.
Chua Ah Tee, a retired teacher living in Muar, was caught off guard when his vaccination appointment was located in Johor Baru. His daughter concerned about his health needed to take leave in order to make the appointment.
The 74-year-old was saddened that he had to trouble his daughter.
He said, “I hope that for the booster shot, those manning MySejahtera will just give us an appointment and let us take it at the nearest vaccination centre.”
K. Krishnan, 81, also fell victim to long-distance travel vaccinations.
He had to travel from Layang-Layang, to Kluang which was approximately 45 km.
The smallholder said, “Those manning MySejahtera should be careful when giving out appointments as even my 13-year-old grandson was given a slot for vaccination at the centre in Kluang early this month through the mobile app.”
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that vulnerable groups, frontliners and the elderly with comorbidities will receive their booster shot beginning next month.
