All eyes are on UNDI 18 as it’s tabled in Parliament today
Parliament will see the tabling of the UNDI18 bill in today’s, September 21, sitting and will discuss the implementation by the government.
According to the Order Paper of the Dewan Rakyat, the UNDI18 matter will be discussed during the oral question-and-answer session held by Gobind Singh Deo.
The Puchong Member of Parliament will be the one who will raise the question to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Earlier in the week, the UNDI18 group released a statement insisting that the state constitutions should allow those age 18 to participate during elections.
“UNDI18 commends the state governments of Perlis, Perak, Kelantan, Terengganu, Sabah and Sarawak and most recently, Penang, for honouring the spirit of the Federal Constitution to lower the minimum age,” the statement added.
The group hopes that other states will commit themselves to change their constitutions to abide by the bill.
The lowering of the minimum age sets a belief and a strong message that state governments are encouraging youths to be more actively involved in representing their communities.
The fourth session of the 14th Parliament will also introduce topics like total expenditure on the immunisation programme nationwide and the reduction of the Covid-19 self-test kit.
