A qualification is not an education
BY: SALSABIELA JAMAL
In a recent poll when Malaysians were asked what an education meant to them most of the respondents stated that getting a certification or high qualifications will go to show and prove that they are educated.
Getting qualifications is all well and good. But getting a qualification means you have merely mastered a certain expertise and have become qualified for a specific job based on your qualifications and experience.
But a real education is more than a mere qualification. Ever seen or heard how many highly qualified individuals are nothing more than derelicts who are dysfunctional and cannot do anything right.
This is the crux of the matter. Get the idea of what a real education means and many Malaysians should start changing the way they think because it becomes terribly embarrassing when those with no or lesser qualifications behave more educated than those who have a formal education.
The human being must replicate the notion and idea that there are noble ideals to strive for in life and not just to think that taking part in the paper chase is a real education. The world is our classroom and human beings get a real education in the university of life.
Don’t get me wrong. Please understand that going to schools, colleges and universities give you a headstart in life. But what you actually learn in this world, the knowledge and understanding from people and life is the education that really counts and matters.
