Pharmacists tell Health Minister they serve the rakyat too
Malaysian Pharmacists Society (MPS) President Amrahi Buang has reminded the Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin that pharmacists are healthcare workers who serve the rakyat.
During an emergency town hall meeting on Friday (Aug 3), Amrahi said, “The MPS’ motto mentions that we serve society’s health needs. We care for the rakyat and I mean it. This is not only about selling these self-test kits.”
He added that as professionals, they are not just sellers but healthcare workers are built to ensure the smooth running of the nation’s healthcare system.
He said when it comes to the Covid-19 self-test kits, they are always ready to help the customer.
The President told, “So to Khairy, I want to say we are doing our job for the rakyat also. We make sure the test kits are used properly by the customers, which is important in the efforts to control the pandemic. It’s not all about costs.”
Also present at the meeting was Subang MP Wong Chen who is pushing for the self-kit test to be given free to B40 communities.
He claimed, “I am absolutely for free kits to be given to the B40 community. If the government buys 20 million products, it should cost around RM200 million.”
On Thursday an announcement was made that Covid-19 self-test kits would be capped at retail for RM 19.90 and wholesale for RM 16.
