Parliament Speaker receives several motions against him
Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun has received several motions to remove him as the Parliament Speaker on Thursday, September 2.
The controversial speaker however had informed the 15 Members of Parliament that he does not have any authority to make a decision over the matter.
He said through a statement, “My office did receive the motions for me to vacate my position and for other individuals to be appointed as the Speaker.”
But he reaffirmed that the decision will be left by his deputy to make, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon.
Utusan Malaysia had recently alleged that the august House Speaker had rejected all of the 15 motions.
But Azhar, nicknamed Art Harun, claimed that the allegations were false and malicious with the intent of harming his reputation.
His statement added, “I have never taken part in any way, or interfered, in the decision over the motions that were filed. In fact, I have no idea on whatever decision that may have been made by the Deputy Speaker.”
Azhar was elected as Speaker in July 2020. The Speaker was heavily criticised for protecting former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin when he lost the majority in Parliament.
