Parliament postpones again but for ministers sake
The postponement of Parliament again is to allow the freshly elected ministers along their deputies to settle in their portfolios.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that 31 ministers and 38 deputies had just been sworn in at the Istana Negara on Monday (Aug 30).
Hence, they need time to discharge their responsibilities, including identifying issues that need priority in each ministry short and long-term planning to achieve the targeted objectives.
Dewan Rakyat Secretary Dr Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin stated the new dates.
The first meeting of the fourth session of the 14th Parliament initially planned to start on Sept 6 until Sept 30 has been postponed to Oct 4 until Oct 21.
The much-expected Parliament sitting was to see Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s legitimacy with a vote of confidence.
But the Prime Minister had to undergo selfquarantine after being on close contact with a Covid-19 patient.
He also had missed the swearing-in of his cabinet at the Istana Negara on Monday.
