Malaysians call Johor Prince insensitive after recent jibe

Malaysians have callout Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim insensitive after taking a jibe at Syed Saddiq on Tuesday, August 31.
A question, asked on Tungku Ismail’s Instagram, was about what would Syed Saddiq need to do to grab his attention.
The prince then took a jibe saying, “Jump off KLCC without a parachute.”
Malaysians then took on social media to call out the prince as insensitive and questioned his dislike for the Muar Member of Parliament.
Mark Mahadevan on Twitter said, “The vituperation shown by the Crown Prince of Johor to Syed Saddiq is truly shocking. It’s disconcerting enough coming from a regular person, let alone a royal. And especially towards someone who has done nothing but serves the people.”
Farhan, another user, commented that it was very unbecoming of a Crown Prince to talk like this about a serving MP.
He added that although he does not know what’s the issue between them, asking Syed Saddiq to essentially kill himself is a little too much.
On top of the jibe, the prince has controversially claimed that Johor does not celebrate Independence Day as the state was never under colonial rule.
He said, “In Johor, traditionally, we only wish Independence Day out of respect. But we don’t ‘celebrate’ because, in Johor’s history, we were never occupied.”
