Make character education compulsory
BY: NOORASHIKIN MD ISHAK
In an ever changing and evolving world some things should never change. They should stay the same forever and this is especially true about character formation or building character. But today class has taken precedence over character.
This is something that should not happen. Class pales in comparison to character and this is the very reason why character education should be made a compulsory subject of study in schools all over the world and not just Malaysia.
It is in pre-school, primary and secondary schools when character education should be taught as during these formative years the minds of the young are fertile and receptive, ever willing to learn anything and they should be imbued with good character lessons.
The young of today are going to be the leaders of tomorrow and that is why it is imperative that they develop the moral fiber to lead others and to counter issues and ills such as corruption, racism, religious bigotry and all the evil plaguing society.
A mind that is trained and educated, that is full of character, will be able to at once create a conducive environment of peace and harmony and cause relationships between people to be cordial and warm.
Good character breeds pleasantness, patience, kindness, tolerance, patience and all the values that people cherish and relish dearly. This is reason enough for character education to be studied by all, both young and old, to make the world at once a better place.
