Barisan Nasional Wants the government to contact the Taliban and influence the OIC
Barisan Nasional has said that the government needs to reach out to the Taliban and influence the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to sort the chaos in Afghanistan.
BN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir in a statement released on Saturday (Aug 28) said, “As a reputable and neutral Islamic country, Malaysia has the capability to influence OIC members to come to a consensus on matters relating to the future of Afghanistan.”
He added that America’s withdrawal from Afghanistan was poorly planned with no coordination. It also failed the Afghan government to defend its position which allowed the current security concerns.
The former Perak Chief Minister claimed that as a reputable and neutral Islamic country, Malaysia has the capability to influence OIC members.
He hopes with that effort, a consensus can be settled on matters relating to the future of Afghanistan.
Zambry encourages the Malaysian government to contact the Taliban delegation based in Doha, Qatar.
He said the goal in mind is to facilitate the coordination of international humanitarian aid to Afghanistan if the situation deteriorates.
He concluded that “Our government must follow the tenets and principles of international relations that we have practised over the years in recognising any government or regime.”
