Give Deputy Parliament Speaker position to the opposition
Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has said that she prefers that the Deputy Speaker of Parliament be given to the opposition party on Thursday, August 26.
During an online Webinar about Parliament reformation, the recently resigned Deputy Speaker was asked how the government and opposition could do better in cooperating.
Azalina replied that it was ‘so obvious’.
“It (the Deputy Speaker post) should be replaced by an opposition member. But the motion must be by the government,” she said.
The Pengerang MP was certain that if the government did as such, it would be a historic moment for Malaysia.
She added, “This is something achievable. If they do this and it is supported (by all), it will be fantastic for Malaysia’s parliamentary history.”
Her words fall in line with the government and opposition trying to find common ground to restabilise politicking and tackling the pandemic crisis.
On Wednesday (Aug 25), opposition leaders met with Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to discuss ongoing issues.
PAS Secretary, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, praised the meeting and called it a ‘mature political move’.
He said, “PAS is of the view that the steps taken are in line with the current political reality where there is no single dominant political party.”
