Comedian questions if congratulatory billboard for PM appropriate in disaster-hit Kedah
A Malaysian comedian had taken to Facebook to ask if the Prime Minister’s congratulatory billboard was necessary in disaster-hit Kedah.
Harith Iskandar said that if he wouldn’t know how to feel if he saw his face plastered on a billboard if he visited an area struck by a natural disaster.
The comedian suggested that it might not have been the idea of the Prime Minister.
He said, “I am 100 percent convinced the PM did not ‘ask for it’ – nobody in their right mind would – but we need to look at the culture and system that results in this waste of public funds (not to mention the lack of taste).”
The ‘Godfather of Stand-Up Comedy’ insisted there needs to be a cultural shift for change.
He believed that there needs to be a change in the system and mindset that allowed such an incident to happen.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob visited several districts that were hit by a deadly flood on Monday (Aug 23). There were at least four reported deaths and 149 displaced residents.
The Prime Minister had also allocated RM 78 million to help those affected and rebuilding infrastructures.
