Malaysia’s now dull political scene
BY: CHRISTOPHER FERNANDEZ
In the last general election, the majority of Malaysians voted for change, and they resoundingly won ousting Barisan Nasional who was the only coalition to lead the country from 1957 to 2018 when change came, a change that the rakyat thought they could believe.
Since then Malaysians are witness to another two governments for which they never voted or wanted. It looks like in this country it is not the wishes or aspirations of the people that count but how the ruling and governing elite decide.
This has caused the political scene to become dull. Same old, same old. Malaysians find that they are seemingly stuck and cannot get rid of the old stock of politicians that they booted in the 14th General Election.
It’s a vicious cycle to see the same old corrupt and inept brigade leading Malaysia when Malaysians are yearning for change, change they can believe in. Is it too much to ask? All Malaysians want is to start afresh on a clean slate.
Now Malaysians are sighing and groaning with agony to see that the very people they don’t want to lead them are again at the helm of power. How do the rakyat get to get their wishes and aspirations? They have been waiting for a long time for change.
It is not that the incoming government is without experience or knowledge. It is just that they have proven themselves incapable and unable to deliver. This is why until the next general election in the middle of 2023 the rakyat will have to agonise with incompetent leaders.
