Ismail Sabri sworn in as 9th Prime Minister
Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob has been sworn in as Prime Minister by the yang di-Pertuan Agong on Saturday, August 21.
Ismail Sabri took his oath and proceeded to sign the instruments of appointment, witnessed by Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.
The Bera MP attended the auspicious ceremony dressed in a black baju Melayu and a golden decorated samping. Alongside was his wife, Datin Seri Muhaini Zainal Abidin, draped in a light purple baju kurung.
The ceremony took about 10 minutes to conclude.
When leaving the Istana Negara, Ismail told reporters that he was thankful to the Members of Parliament and political chiefs for their support.
He added that a full statement will be released on Sunday (Aug 22) Among others in the ceremony were political leaders within the Perikatan Nasional coalition.
They were Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The Prime Minister, third within one election, will have to test his legitimacy in Parliament as soon as possible, according to the King.
