Colouring could be a favourite pastime for not only children, but also adults. Adult colouring books have become a trend worldwide and many adults are starting to spend their free time to de-stress and lower anxiety levels by colouring.
As colouring relaxes our brain, it is an easy, fun and relaxing hobby that you could take up during leisure time at home. It allows us to relax after a busy day at work. We will experience relief and calmness.
Besides feeling relaxed and stress-free, colouring would make us more creative. Colouring requires focus, but not as much as when you’re studying or working. When you purchase a colouring book to start colouring, you will also be giving yourself a break from your phone and laptop. This is one way to let your eyes rest after a day of looking at your computer at work.
Adult colouring books consist of more intricate designs compared to colouring books for children. They also have a wider selection of themes to choose from and are portable. Adult colouring requires attention that is outside our self-awareness that would lead to mindfulness. Some studies also claimed that colouring mandalas or geometric patterns have helped lower stress and anxiety levels.
Completing a piece of colouring artwork provides a sense of self-accomplishment. You could hang your masterpiece on a wall to showcase it to your friends when they come to pay you a visit. You don’t have to be good in colouring to enjoy the fun of colouring, your artwork can be as messy or as neat as you want, nobody will be judging you. It is just a hobby that provides us with a wonderful escape from the daily stresses of life.
