The Yang di-Pertuan Agong is likely to settle on Ismail Sabri as Prime Minister after receiving 114 statutory declarations.
The 114 Members of Parliament that had nominated Ismail Sabri come from Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) from Sabah, and Independents.
To be assured, the Agong requested all 114 MPs to be at the Istana Negara today (Aug 19) for verification.
His Majesty also added that the Prime Minister nominee will have to seek a vote of confidence in Parliament soon.
A source had stated that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong desires a candidate who can command unity among different political factions. He must also manage the country’s economic recovery and the pandemic.
UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, said that “Only the team that has won has been invited to confirm its support again at Istana Negara. This means that Ismail Sabri, with the grace of Allah, is the PM candidate who has won.”
The 114 votes will mean that Anwar Ibrahim has lost the majority after claiming he has the numbers.
