Muhyiddin’s resignation timely and expected
BY: NANTHINI DEWI
Following nearly one-and-half years of being in power, Muhyiddin Yassin and his cabinet’s resignation comes as no surprise as there was mounting pressure from opposition politicians and the rakyat for them to exit through the back door through which they entered.
Ever since they came to power at Putrajaya by ousting the democratically-elected Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, there has been mounting pressure on Perikatan Nasional (PN) to perform and their performance was miserable and dismal.
Muhyiddin Yassin has been retained by His Majesty the King to be the caretaker Prime Minister as the Agong feels a General Election should not be called as the Covid-19 pandemic rages and may cause more infections during an election.
This is a wise decision by His Majesty the King. But there still has to be a national referendum as to who and how the rakyat want to have as their political leaders to steer and navigate the nation through a most dismal period since the inception of the country in 1957.
In the time PN was in power, governing Malaysia, things started to go awry and get from bad to worse. The Covid-19 pandemic completely threw the PN government off balance as they focused on being in power to fulfill their self-seeking interests.
The list of ills in the country mushroomed such as diseases, death, poverty, unemployment and hunger to the extent distress signals were raised by flying white, black and red flags throughout the country as a clear and visible sign that the nation was beginning to implode.
A coalition like PN should never have been allowed to come to power and govern as now the incoming government has an unenviable task of undoing so much damage and destruction that has taken place by foolhardy PN politicians.
