Anwar condemns bias Parliament Speaker
Anwar Ibrahim has blasted Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, over the failure of informing the Prime Minister on MPs withdrawing support for Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The opposition leader said that the speaker had informed the public when Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah pulled out from the PN bloc.
He told, “This happened before the start of the special parliamentary session last month. Given that so many letters have gone to the speaker and the King, why in the world has he not informed the Prime Minister?”
He concluded that the speaker is unfit for the job in the Dewan Rakyat. The Port Dickson Member of Parliament was firmed that this issue was more serious this time.
The reason being that the Istana Negara had received 15 written decisions to no longer support the Prime Minister. Essentially it meant that the government has fallen.
Anwar added the question whether the bias Azahar is politicking or incompetent as he stops the weakened government from collapsing.
But Ali Biju, the Saratok MP, had defended the speaker by stating that it would be beyond Azhar’s jurisdiction and power to inform the PM.
The Sarawak representative wrote in an article on Wednesday (Aug 11), Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution deems only the Prime Minister decides if he commands the majority in the Dewan Rakyat.
