UMNO’s current withdrawal meaningless as Muhyiddin Yassin still in control
Prime Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin is to remain in control of the government despite having UMNO Members of Parliament withdrawing from Perikatan Nasional.
The special live-televised event by Muhyiddin came after an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 4.
He announced that during the meeting with the Agong, he presented a number of statutory declarations from MPs.
It convinced the Agong that Muhyiddin had the majority in the Dewan Rakyat. The evidence avoided the issue of the Prime Minister’s Resignation under Article 43 (4) of the Federal Constitution.
The Pagoh MP added, “I know that there are parties unhappy with my insistence, and for not entertaining some of their demands. This includes urging me to intervene in court affairs to acquit several individuals on trial for criminal offences.”
Datuk Seri Najib has come out and rebuked that claim by the premier.
“In the end, he (Muhyiddin) blames those that pulled their support for him as those who want their cases dropped, whereas the best way to drop charges is to flatter him instead of going against him,” he said.
In September when Parliament reconvenes the motion of confidence be tabled which the King had accepted.
This will be to determine the legitimacy of Muhyiddin’s position as Prime Minister.
