Opposition party leaders took to the streets at Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur to protest after being denied entry to Parliament on Monday (Aug 2).
Among the opposition members were Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and Lim Guan Eng who intended to march to Parliament. However, the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) were able to stop the march from going any further.
A banner that read “Mahiaddin & Kabinet Letak Jawatan” was at the forefront of the protest. The words meaning Muhyiddin and his Cabinet to step down is because of the poor handling of the Coronavirus pandemic and economic uncertainties.
This protest comes after the recent decision by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to postpone the special Parliament sitting due to several Covid-19 cases within the Dewan Rakyat. A notice written to Members of Parliament stated that the decision was based on advice from the health ministry.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah on Monday (Aug 2) said “The Health Ministry has suggested all meetings, such as the parliamentary select committees, special select committees and the briefing sessions for those who were at the Parliament from July 26-29, be postponed temporarily for two weeks.”
