During the lockdown, many offices are closed and employees are required to work from home. Meanwhile, some people who have lost their jobs have decided to get creative and start small businesses online to earn their income. Online businesses could also be done part time to earn extra income.
To start an online business, you would need a good internet connection, a little budget, effort and good time management. When your business is going steady and your income is increasing, you could also start hiring people to help you manage it. However, maintaining and managing a business is never easy.
If you’re interested in being an online entrepreneur, you would first need to determine the product and nature of your business. For instance, if you are interested in selling homemade shampoo, you could sell them at your own online e-commerce store or other online shopping website such as Lazada or Shopee. If you wish to provide services such as online tutoring, you would need to create an eye-catching website with attractive advertisements on learning packages.
Before starting a business, you should ask yourself the reason why you are doing it. Therefore, it is vital to have a business plan for you to succeed. When you are determined and confident to start a business, you could register your company with Suruhanjaya Syarikat Malaysia (SSM) in order for it to be legal and valid. You would also need to give a name for your company and determine its category for registration purposes.
Every business should have an official website with a domain name and hosting. A business email address should also be stated on the website for clients to contact you. A website with good content should be attractive, simple and straightforward. Most importantly is to get Google to feature your website on the first page. You could also advertise your business on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to gain more customers.
Lastly, starting an online business might require you to work longer hours compared to your 9 to 5 job. Nevertheless, when you persevere and earn a profit, it will always be rewarding as your hard work has paid off.
