Ed Sheeran Talks About How He Almost Quit Music To Focus On Being A Dad
We’re all big fans of Ed Sheeran over here. This man makes hit after hit and never quits. But he almost did, and for the most touching reason; to focus on being a dad to his daughter Lyra whom he shares with wife Cherry Seaborn.
During an appearance on Sirius XM Hits 1, the singer-songwriter opened up about ‘searching’ for who he was during his year off from making music. “Music is entirely me as a person.”
He goes on to talk about how once his daughter was born, he knew then and there and made up his mind that he would quit being an artist. “I was like, that’s it … this is me I’m just gonna be a dad. I’m not gonna play music anymore.”
As one would imagine, this decision made the 30-year-old ‘really sad’ as, despite putting all his efforts into being a great dad, he felt like he had no purpose. Sheeran, thankfully, had a change of heart and came to the realization that it was “more important for my daughter to grow up knowing that her parents have work ethic” and that how her parents “love working hard and love creating and enjoy their jobs.”
“And seeing that rather than like looking at your dad as technically unemployed,” continued Sheeran.
