Online learning during the pandemic may be a lonely and isolated experience to some learners. They may have difficulties understanding and learning new topics as their teachers or lecturers are not present physically to guide and tutor them.
As learning is now confined to be remotely or at home, it is challenging to students whose learning methods were previously face-to-face. Some of the challenges would also be lack of access to a good internet connection. However, some students may have adapted well and start to enjoy online learning.
Online learning could be fun if students set personal goals daily on the topics that they are learning. They could also have Zoom video calls with their classmates or teachers to brainstorm and discuss topics. That would make learning a fun and less lonely experience. It is also important that two way communication between tutors and students is achieved during the period of online learning. Students should be encouraged to ask their teachers questions regarding their subjects personally through emails, text messages or video calls in order to gain an in-depth understanding of what they are learning.
Another way is to find a comfortable spot to study that is free of distractions. Students should also establish a study routine daily and exercise during their free time to de-stress. Most importantly, they should reward themselves after every session by having a nice meal, snack or even watching a movie after their study hours.
Studying alone can be a lonely experience but we can find ways to make it more interesting. Students should constantly keep in touch with study mates and tutors to ensure that they do well in their studies and exams. Tutors should also give regular feedback and motivation to their students to encourage them to continue online learning.
