Next week the heads of Malaysia’s nine royal households will reportedly hold an emergency meeting to discuss among others the Covid-19 situation and the State of Emergency, the Straits Times of Singapore reported.
Speculation is rife, according to the newspaper, that His Majesty the Yang DiPertuan Agong will hold the meeting on Wednesday, June 16.
Other sources told the paper that the Malay rulers’ meeting will be held after a lunch hosted at Istana Negara and was actually only decided upon a few days ago.
The Yang DiPertuan Agong is reportedly concerned over the worsening of the Covid-19 crisis despite a lockdown in force and flip-flops in the issuance of SOP’s and the slow progress of the national vaccination program.
His Majesty is also considering the many calls of political leaders to end the State of Emergency as soon as possible and to reconvene Parliament.
This is not a Conference of Rulers session but a special emergency meeting. The Conference of Rulers among the sultans, which is held three times a year, is now set for June 30 at the end of this month.
